Episode 50: The Timeline Catastrophe

Image
The Caverns of Time: Tanaris As I marched down the sandy entrance to the Caverns of Time, I looked to my left and saw Salonis and Keiara. To my right, Evanor and Tabetha had joined me as well. The teleportation had been simple enough with three magi to make it happen. Now, here in the cave, it was time to get some answers. We walked together down the tunnel, walking side by side until they reached the very core of the caverns, where swirling vortexes that leaked into important moments of time floated all around us. In the very center of it all stood a massive bronze dragon that I knew to be Nozdormu. "It's been a long time," I said loudly. "I've come to have a chat." The dragon looked to me and lowered its massive head. It shifting in shape as it lowered to the ground. "I knew you would come eventually," Nozdormu said as he stepped toward our group. "You've put the pieces together by now." "Not all of the pieces," I ...

Episode 49: Looking for Answers...

Tabetha's Farm: Dustwallow Marsh The morning sun was rising on the horizon by the time I took my seat at a small wooden table inside of Tabetha's Farmhouse. A cup of warm tea was waiting for me, but I hardly felt like drinking anything right now. Salonis and Keaira on the other hand, tore into the meager meal that Tabetha had prepared for them and still looked like they might eat the table when they were done. Despite my dry throat and clear signs of dehydration, I wanted nothing to do with any of this. The door to the farmhouse opened and Lady Evanor stepped inside looking as flustered as ever. She looked to me for a moment and then frowned. "Such a terrible fate," she said. "Sionis, how did you even get out here?" "Salonis," I replied, pointing to the worgen. "He wrote me a letter and said I needed to seek him out." "Why did you write to Sepher?" she asked. "You told me to," Salonis replied. "I have the l...

Episode 48: So Many of Me

Razorfen Kraul: Southern Barrens It took almost three hours of flying, but I finally found what I was looking for. At first glance, it looked like nothing more than a tangle of black fur and blue cloth, but as Cookie descended on the object, it quickly took form of a two bodies. I cursed under my breath and when we hit the ground I leapt from the drake, coming to kneel beside them. My heart was pounding in my throat and I was certain that these two were already dead, but when I got close, the two bodies suddenly jumped to life. "Halt attacker!" the worgen yelled. "I'll tear your limbs from your body!" "No need for that," I shouted. "You're the one that asked me here!" The worgen took a moment to look me over before he lowered his weapon and let out a long sigh. "I wondered if you'd get here in time," Salonis said, his voice deep and gravely, but still shockingly close to my own voice. "I don't have much left i...

Episode 47: Tragedy at Bael Modan

Image
Bael Modan Dig Site: Southern Barrens Long before I reached the dig site, the smoke in the sky had me concerned. The closer I got, the more I understood that I was flying toward tragedy. I made a low pass over the ruins of the site and saw fresh fire erupting out of ancient windows while screams echoed in the air. I pulled on the drake's reins and brought Cookie down as close as it dared get to the fire. I jumped from the creature and immediately started throwing ice blasts into the burning windows while summoning a water elemental to help kill some of the flames. Not far from the entrance to the building I caught sight of a few survivors huddled together, coughing and tending to burns they had sustained. "Are there still people in there?" I asked. "Aye!" a young darwven woman shouted from somewhere in the haze. "Dozens of them! Do you think you can help?" "I'll do what I can!" I answered, rushing to the dwarf's side. A small thi...

Episode 46: The Mysterious Letter...

Sionis, If I'm correct, you probably don't know my name, but I know you more than you could ever imagine. The truth is, we once lived as a single person. The cataclysm tore us apart just as it sundered the earth beneath our feet. My name is Salonis, but I am you and you are me. You must come speak to me right away. Our lives are in danger now and we're going on the run. Come to the Barrens. You'll find us there. Salonis  Lunarfall: Shadowmoon Valley The letter arrived by post in the morning. I read it over and over trying to get some piece of information that was clearly not there. The author had made the letter so short, so simple, and yet it was somehow haunting to me... I could have written it, but it was so simple that almost anyone could have written it. The truth of the matter was that I had never heard of a man named Salonis, but not knowing a name didn't mean we had never met. Of course, it was possible that we hadn't met, and this Salonis person simply...

Episode 45: The Terrible Tale of Carrotus Maximus - Part Three

Image
Lunarfall: Shadowmoon Valley Fiona was already waiting for me when my gryphon touched down in the garrison. Tessa was right behind her and she was looking as terrified as ever. I moved over to them and, without saying a word, uncovered the magical frogs that I had brought back to camp with me. "Oh, you found them?" Fiona asked with surprise in her voice. "You might say that," I responded. "We found each other is the more honest response." "Regardless," she said, snatching the frogs away from me. "We have what we need to rid our garden of that horrible little elemental beast." A thundering blast echoed beyond the garrison walls and I nearly jumped out of his skin. "What was that?" "That would be Iliera," Fiona responded. "She's been prepping our artillery core all morning. I have a strong feeling she wants to burn Highmaul to the ground more than anyone else on this world." "Well, I'm gla...

Episode 44: The Terrible Tale of Carrotus Maximus - Part Two

Image
Highpass: Gorgrond The magical frogs had created a mess in Highpass. Soldiers had initially picked the frogs up to remove them from the camp, totally unaware that they were magical in the first place. From the sounds of it the first six soldiers had simply turned into frogs and started hopping around like the rest. This, of course, made killing the invaders rather troublesome as there were allies in the field that couldn't be easily distinguished from the attackers. To make matters worse, a few brave souls had attempted to scoop up their fallen frog friends only to discover that the magic persisted. A dozen Highpass workers were now bouncing around among the original wave of magical frogs that came into the camp. Fortunately, the frogs could only turn people if they made direct contact with them. After quelling the initial panic that I found on my arrival, I was able to organize a frog-catching exercise. Blankets from the soldier's beds were thrown over the invaders and they ...

Episode 43: The Terrible Tale of Carrotus Maximus - Part One

Image
Lunarfall: Shadowmoon Valley "I'm only telling you what she said, General, I'm not saying that I like it or agree with it by any means." I glared at Tessa Gadson, the individual that had brought me the news this morning. She looked nervous, and clearly she didn't like the message she was delivering, but none the less she was the one that had come to me. My frustration had nowhere else to go. "You're telling me that an elemental creature, in the shape of a carrot, is terrorizing our garden?" She nodded. There was a brief moment where I worried my people might be losing his sanity. There were a lot of things that I had experienced since my arrival on Draenor months before. There had been terrifying ogres, blood-thirsty orcs, even the dark powers of the twilight clan had been present here, but none of those things could have prepared me for this. "I'm so sorry, General. The herb garden is overrun. I went to Fiona because she knows this s...

Episode 42: Fire and Ice

Nagrand, Draenor Six Months Later... The wild Elekk stomped down a grassy hill with an added urgency that set off dozens of alarms in my head. The herd was surprised and that surprise meant they sensed something I had missed. We still hadn't lost that Horde rogue that tried to ambush us a few miles outside of Telaari Station. I moved closer to the herd of Elekk and tried to avoid getting trampled. Cookie, my blue proto-drake, tried to snap at one of the creatures before I pulled the reins to get him under control. Together the group moved into a large field and I felt the hairs on my neck standing up. The rogue was coming I had no idea where to turn. Feeling very concerned, I decided to do the only thing I knew how to do in these situations... The pyroblast hit the closest Elekk spot on and the creature suddenly reared back in pain, throwing the rest of the herd into a frenzy. The chaos that erupted caused Cookie to buck, throwing me for a loop as I tumbled onto the green grass...

Episode 41: The Dark Day Arrives

Image
Blasted Lands: Eastern Kingdom The day arrived without much warning. I had heard about Garrosh's escape from the trial in Pandaria, but then the world had gone quiet and life continued. I knew we had to be getting close to something important, so I started sending word to all of the contacts I had made over the last few years. Then, word came from Nethergarde Keep. The forces of the Iron Horde had come through the portal and they were quickly taking ground. By the time our forces were able to respond, the Keep had fallen and these new foes were pushing deeper into our lands. I was not the only individual that Nozdormu had decided to save from death. I knew that, but I had never given it much consideration until now. As I rallied my allies and called on the strength of the Alliance, I watched as heroes of the Horde did the same. The dragon's plan was coming together. As the Alliance and Horde prepared to launch a major naval assault on the Blasted Lands, they feigned attack...

Episode 40: Times Change...

Image
A lot can happen in two years, but knowing a few big events in advance really means a lot of time spent in anticipation. When the mist-covered shores of Pandaria were discovered by the Alliance and Horde, I knew that time was running out. Meanwhile, the ever boisterous Garrosh Hellscream was leading the Horde down the most destructive path that I had ever witnessed. Then, the destruction of Theramore. It wasn’t that I had expected to know everything about the future, but after all that Nozdormu told me about building a strong future, I couldn’t believe that the destruction of Theramore happened at all. In the days after the deadly explosion, I half-expected that I would be contacted to travel back and stop the event. So many good heroes died in that fight. Unfortunately, as time pressed forward, I realized that the event was a branching point in the fight against the Horde. It was the moment when the whole world began to turn against Garrosh Hellscream. If the destruction of the c...

Episode 39: All About Northrend...

Image
There was a brief moment where I thought that Christine might not believe my story about dying in an underwater cave, and being confronted by the time-traveling bronze dragon, before being magically teleported to Northrend where she could find me. Of course, it was a very brief moment as she squinted her nose and pursed her lips. Then, she gave a firm nod and stood up from her dinner table to offer him her hand. “What can I do to help?” she asked. I was glad to hear those words. I was going to need a lot of help if this was going to play out as the bronze dragon had said. Fortunately, helping was something that Christine knew how to handle without issue. For the next seven weeks we travelled all across Northrend, pulling favors from friends and eliminating lingering threats of the old Lich King every step of the way. During the first week, I had tried to keep a checklist of friends that I made and lives that I managed to save, but that task quickly became too challenging. Despite...
